Kavita Pandit joined SUNY System Administration as Senior Vice Provost in July 2007. She came to System Administration from the University of Georgia where she was Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences (2006-2007), Associate Head and Head of the Department of Geography (2001-2005), and faculty member in the Department of Geography since 1987.

 

Dr. Pandit’s responsibilities as Senior Vice Provost include Program Review and Assessment, Academic Planning and Analysis, oversight of the Mission Review Initiative, coordination of International Programs, faculty awards and development programs, and primary liaison to the academic standards committee of the Board of Trustees.

 

She was born and educated in Mumbai India, receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Bombay University in 1978. Dr. Pandit did her graduate work at Ohio State University, earning a Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning (1981) and a Ph.D. in Geography (1987). Her academic interests are in the areas of international development and immigration. She is the coeditor of Migration and Restructuring in the United States (Rowman and Littlefield, 1999) and Introductory Reader in Human Geography (Blackwell, 2007). In 2006-2007 she served as the elected President of the Association of American Geographers, a scholarly organization with over 10,000 members.
